Overall experience: Positive, family-friendly destination with excellent entertainment value, marred by poor table service.

What worked

  • Activities: The bays are fun and well-maintained. Games are intuitive for beginners and challenging enough for more experienced players. Plenty of bay space and climate control keeps things comfortable year-round.

  • Atmosphere: Energetic, family-friendly environment. Good mix of music, lighting, and crowd energy that makes it ideal for birthdays, group outings, or family nights.

  • Food & drink quality: When we ordered via the app, food and drinks arrived as expected and tasted good for a venue of this type. Menu selection offers typical bar-restaurant fare with some solid options for kids and adults alike.

  • Convenience: Mobile ordering works well and is a reliable fallback when in-person service is lacking.

What didn’t work

  • Table service: Our server was consistently poor—slow, inattentive, and unresponsive to requests. This significantly impacted the experience, especially during peak times when we needed replenishment or assistance.

  • Dependence on app: While the mobile app saved the visit for us, relying on it to compensate for inadequate staff shouldn’t be necessary. Guests should be able to expect consistent, attentive in-person service.

Recommendation

  • Great choice for family outings and group events when you want an active, social setting that keeps everyone engaged. If you go, plan to use the mobile app for ordering in case service is slow. Management should address staffing/training to match the otherwise high-quality experience.

Blue Moon Tap House at Waterside was a major disappointment on the 4th of July. The restaurant was extremely hot inside (in the evening), and we were told the fryer was not working, severely limiting our menu options. We waited a long time for service that was very slow despite our waitress being really good. Many tables were reserved, leaving the place mostly empty. I ordered anyway, but then french fries arrived that had clearly been fried. The fries were disgusting with a strong burnt oil taste and smell. It seemed they told us the fryer was down simply to avoid changing the oil. My chicken BLT wrap was decent. Total letdown bringing family from out of town for fireworks at Waterside. Not sure if they want to stay in business with these issues.

Manchester Grand Hyatt San Diego

The Manchester Grand Hyatt San Diego is a stunning property with incredible views. Our room offered breathtaking panoramas of the harbor and city skyline that made the stay memorable. The hotel itself is beautiful, well-maintained, and in a fantastic location right by the waterfront. That said, as a Globalist member I expected better service and breakfast quality. The breakfast meats were often either cold or overcooked, and we had to repeatedly ask for towels during our stay. These small issues were disappointing at this price point and loyalty level. Overall, the spectacular views and beautiful hotel still make it worth recommending for San Diego visitors. Just temper expectations on the dining and some service details.

High Ground Brewing is a winner! The beer is excellent, fresh, flavorful, and well-crafted. The food truck parked on-site served outstanding meals that paired perfectly with the brews. The brew master was friendly and knowledgeable. Love the rustic tap room, patriotic vibe, and outdoor seating area. Great spot for quality beer and solid food.
